- Saints Nation: Post Draft Thoughts I went 1-5 in my picks with the Saints getting Terron Armstead, OT from Arkansas Pine-Bluff, so at least I was able to predict one correctly before the draft. While we are on Armstead, I like the pick for where the Saints got him in the third round. He gives us a highly athletic left tackle that may or may not start in the first year but will be there when we need him to be, and it allows for a more complete offensive line after the departure of Jermon Bushrod. Moving on to the first round with the pick of Kenny Vaccaro, I'm okay with this pick. As all of you know, I wanted Barkevious Mingo more than anyone not named Dion Jordan. Whereas the Saints didn't get my guy, they still got help on the backside of the defense and that's what matters in the first round. I've heard mixed reviews about this guy ranging from not being able to make tackles on a consistent basis to having elite athleticism so that plays into my final verdict of "I'm okay with th...
- Cardinals Could Be An Option For Free Agent DT Sedrick Ellis Mike Jurecki is “hearing“ that the Arizona Cardinals could have interest in free agent DT Sedrick Ellis. Ellis, 27, is a former first-round pick of the New Orleans Saints, but he has yet to live up to his draft status. This offseason, Ellis has found almost no interest on the open market, despite the fact that he’s still young and there were very few options available at defensive tackle. Arizona could use some additional depth on their defensive line and they should be able to get him under contract for a very reasonable sum of money. The problem with Ellis is that he offers almost nothing in terms of interior pass rush and has also struggled against the run in recent years, so he’s really more a guy who just takes up space. If he’s signed at some point in the near future, it’s doubtful that he would be guaranteed a roster spot. The post Cardinals Could Be An Option For Free Agent DT Sedrick Ellis appeared first on NFL Trade Rumors -.
- Saints Nation: Optimum Scouting on Kenny Vaccaro I caught up with Eric Galko of Optimum Scouting over the weekend to get his view of the Saints' first round pick and felt it was very valuable feedback to share. Optimum Scouting is one of the most popular sites on the Bloguin Network and is worth frequent visitation during draft season in particular. They are a worthwile follow on twitter, as well. It's also worth quickly noting that they posted a list of top 120 undrafted players, with Chase Thomas coming in at #3 and Kevin Reddick coming in at #21. Here's what Eric had to say about Vaccaro: Vaccaro is a guy I call the "Anti-Matchup Nightmare". Teams in the NFL are trying to find slot receivers, running backs, or tight ends that can give defenses problems. Kenny Vaccaro can play in center field, but he can match-up with the NFL's best playmakers and take away the unique advantage teams like the Patriots, Broncos, and Falcons have.
- Drew Brees and Wife Love the Movies We are a fun couple T… Drew Brees gets paid to wear a uniform. When he’s not making money wearing a helmet and pads, he still likes to dress up in costume. - Mickey Loomis Suggests Several Saints Veterans Will Not Remain With Team In 2013 Shortly after the draft concluded, Saints GM Mickey Loomis spoke to the media on a variety of subjects pertaining to the draft and the players the Saints selected. The little nugget of info that seems to be attracting the most attention right now is the short answer Loomis gave at the end when asked about free agents Sedrick Ellis, Devery Henderson, and Scott Shanle. He said simply, ""Look, they’re free agents and probably not part of our plans for this year." Seems pretty definite that their playing days in Saints uniforms are over. Source: SBNation.com
- Saints sign 13 rookie free agents One of the most underrated post draft activities is the chase for undrafted free agents. Teams can find diamonds in the rough by combing though their draft boards and finding out who is left. According to NewOrleansSaints.com, in the everlasting quest for talent, the Saints have signed 13 rookie free agents. West Virginia running back Shawne Alston Illinois defensive end Glenn Foster Idaho State tight end Josh Hill Utah cornerback Ryan Lacy Grand Valley State guard Tim Lelito Nebraska linebacker Eric Martin Michigan center Elliot Mealer Louisiana-Monroe tight end Keavon Milton Central Florida linebacker Rayford Shipman Georgia Tech cornerback Rod Sweeting Stanford linebacker Chase Thomas North Carolina linebacker Kevin Reddick Tulane quarterback Ryan Griffin
- Saints Nation: Do the Saints Need More Extensive Sub Packages on Defense? I'm not going to lie, this post was entirely motivated by the piece I read by Reid on SaintsWin. In fact, Reid is one of my very favorite Saints bloggers to read and I recommend you follow him on twitter to get more familiar with his stuff. His post got me thinking not just about the safety position, but the entire defense. Remember when football in the 80s and 90s was played where you had your 11 starters and they played the entire game? They were only replaced if someone got hurt or needed a breather. Heck, before that era in the 40s guys used to have to go both ways in a largely one-platoon system. Back then if you subbed one guy out, you had to sub out the entire unit similar to what they do in hockey sometimes with a line change. That time has changed, and I think the drafting of Kenny Vaccaro possibly further signals that for the future of the Saints' defense. Sean Payton's offense has really shifted from the traditional mold. Unless you're Drew Brees or ...

- Is Chris Ivory Atop the Depth Chart with Jets? Well after weeks of speculation, the New York Jets finally pulled the trigger and acquired the services of running back Chris Ivory from the New Orleans Saints for a fourth round pick. The Saints have had Ivory stashed away for quite some time and had been trying to move him this off-season. The Jets were in need of running back depth after Shonn Greene signed in Tennessee. New York did acquire promising veteran, Mike Goodson and still have Bilal Powell but neither of them are sure things to start. Ivory should move up to be the #1 RB with this news. He has the most potential to be an every down back and has proven to be a good back for at least a significant stretch of time. In 2010, he broke onto the fantasy scene carrying the ball 137 times for 716 yards and 3 touchdowns while Pierre Thomas was injured. He has played sparingly since, but does well when given a chance. He rushed for 5.4 YPC on 40 carries last season. The question mark for Ivory is whether or not he can catch out o...
